I hope you’ve had a lovely week.

On the topic of passive income last week - turns out from our poll that

70% of us have NO PASSIVE INCOME

This is somewhat worrying to be honest, considering we all want to become financially stable - especially with the cost of living crisis, pensions dates extending and the very real threat of burnout or health crises from work leading to not being able to work at all to earn an income.

Thanks to ALL those who left comments, and I’m super glad that some of us are actively investing in stocks and shares or have other plans in place.

If you don’t have any passive income, this is a great time to start exploring where you can get started on this.

I’m no financial advisor, so I strongly recommend you go seek one ASAP to ensure your current finances are as stable as they can be for a start.

Invest in what nobody can take away from you

As doctors, our value is tied up in our qualifications. We rely on this to earn money.

But what happens if your medical registration was taken away from you tomorrow? (It does happen!)

How would YOU earn money?

One of the reasons I set up Medic Footprints, and developed other businesses and sources of income was to ensure I wasn’t 100% reliant on my medical degree to work.

Now I’m purposefully focusing on developing my passive income streams - part of this through the Travel Doctorpreneurs.

There was an article in GP Online this week about a GP Registrar who applied for a job in Tescos.

Now that’s pretty shocking.

I would encourage you to think carefully about how you can grow beyond being a doctor… yet leveraging what you already have and can do. Regardless of whether you want to continue practicing clinical medicine or not.

Invest in developing skills that will help you stand out in an increasingly crowded market of doctors trying to get into healthtech, industry or any job.

Invest in finding out what makes you, YOU.

Getting a better paid job won’t really change your wealth if your habits don’t change with it.

This is why so many people who win the lottery end up losing it all, and suffer from significant overwhelm. They simply don’t know how to manage their money.
