I hear this several times a week from doctors I mentor:

“I’m not qualified enough to apply for that opportunity”

Despite the fact that doctors are perhaps the most over qualified professionals in the world.

As qualification junkies, it’s hard-wired into us that unless we have countless years of specific experience in something, we’re not nearly good enough to be considered for it.

Yes, there’s a huge imposter piece in this too, but it significantly holds most doctors back from pursuing their dream career.

If this is you, what can you do about it?

Start by writing down what you value about yourself. Skills, strengths, qualities. Start with the non-medical ones!

It’s those unique soft skills that are your currency - employers love them and you’ll be surprised by how much you already have.. and the great thing about them is that, unlike your qualifications, nobody can ever take them away from you!
