How I tackle my Imposter Syndrome

It never ends..

Hello! How’s your midweek?

During one of our Doctors in Industry Fellowship sessions where we have medical students to post Consultants - we had a really insightful comment from a student:

“I always thought imposter syndrome was something that would go away over time as you develop your career in medicine.

But having heard from other doctors much further on in theircareer - it seems that it never really does go away.”

So, how do I manage my own imposter syndrome which lives with me every day (even in writing this email)..

Well.. it’s my best friend, but I don’t let it stop me move forward towards my goals.

It’s my biggest critic, but experience has told me it’s never really ‘right’. It’s just a great resource I use to reflect and ground myself.

I see the big purpose for what I do in supporting doctors to become high value non-clinical experts in careers they love and control.

And that’s way more important than listening to my imposter syndrome which hasn’t really changed it’s tune since I was a child. It’s just a bit quieter now.
