3 Quick Tips to Maximise Your Income as an Independent Service-Based Business

1️⃣ Own a DEEP, SPECIFIC Niche, Not Just a Title – Be known for solving a specific problem rather than just being a generic "consultant" or "coach." The more focused your expertise, the higher your value.

e.g. I help doctors who struggle with undervaluing their work, burnout, wasting time and journey isolation & propel them to high impact careers beyond their greatest ambitions.

I help doctors improve their careers, find balance, and reach their full potential.

2️⃣ Package Your Services, Don’t Sell Time – Shift from charging hourly to offering outcome-based pricing. Think advisory retainers, training programs, or VIP strategy days rather than one-off calls.

As an example, you could theoretically charge £50k for one day’s worth of advice, saving a company £millions in wasted time, labour and effort for developing a product which had no therapeutic value, adding massive credibility by verifying their product as a doctor, or even simply making an introduction to a client that purchased a high value product.

3️⃣ Sell to Businesses, Not Just Individuals – Corporations, healthcare startups, and insurers pay more than individual clients. If you can solve a business problem (e.g., workforce health, risk management, leadership training), you can command higher fees.

e.g. We have a Fellow who has a 1-1 health coaching service for individuals who also sells this service at scale to corporate - company size of 4000 employees.

Can you imagine - the work it takes to sell to one individual vs the work it takes to sell to 1 company which pays you the equivalent of 4000 individuals.
