Social Media.

Still one of the biggest nemeses of doctors changing careers.

This week I heard several times from several doctors I mentor that they were held back from joining LinkedIn or growing their personal brand on other platforms because it was a terrifying thought of putting themselves ‘out there’.

Don’t get me wrong.. it IS terrifying.

Because you leave yourself vulnerable to criticism, right?

…but how about the fact it also leaves yourself MORE open to opportunities?

Which of the above is more important to you?

This week I recorded a podcast episode with Doctors in Industry Founding Fellow Mr. Lee Humphreys - Bariatric Surgeon, Obesity Expert and Health Tech Advisor.

He started off the year as a social media skeptic.

With our guidance, after recognising that in order to grow his credibility and influence beyond the NHS, he needed to use LinkedIn as a tool as a means to do this, he is now a regular authority on GLP-1 Drugs for Weight Loss and also runs a growing podcast - Beyond the Scales.

He also ended up on Neutraceutical Business Review.

Remember.. there are millions of people out there that need to know you’re there, need to hear your voice and learn from you.

The people who tend to get the jobs, opportunities and more.. they aren’t necessarily any better than you.

They just learned how to market themselves well and amplify their voices on social media.

Nobody is interested in perfect anymore.

They just want to hear from people they relate to.

.. and that’s you!

So.. if you’re one of those doctors who’s held back from this, remember that especially at the beginning, nobody is watching you anyway, so it’s a great opportunity to mess up as many times as you can to learn and grow your confidence.

The team organised an impromptu Zoom meeting at 9am last Friday morning after I shared an amazing offer from one of our podcast guests who learned what we were achieving in growing the world’s largest doctor-led travel team.
