Is personal branding a thing for job seekers?
What does Google say about you? Is it what you want?
Hello! š
Iām not going to lie. This week was incredibly challenging for many reasons which I wonāt go into.
However there were plenty of exciting moments including speaking on a panel for The Watercooler Conference at the Excel London.

Speaking about how best to embed Occupational Health and HR into organisations, my general message was - in Occupational Health weāre not great at branding ourselves. I didnāt even know it was a career path in Medicine when I went looking for alternative options.
Similarly, many employers and HR teams donāt really understand what we do, or how we can help them with their employees.
So, what is branding, and why is it important?
Branding is all about how you make people feel and what they remember you for.
When I mention Tesla, Amazon or even NHS, it will likely evoke some kind of emotional response, right?
You may even have a story to go with it. Companies and people spend up to billions every year on their branding. It makes or breaks their survival.
However..
Branding is not just for companies or celebrities.
Itās for job seekers or anyone in the world of work.. and beyond.
If youāre looking for a job right now.. particularly if itās an industry role or somewhat different from what you did before.. how many people associate you with that career path?
When you google yourself, is it aligned with who you want to be known for?
FYI - you donāt need to be working in the area to be associated with it. Even just networking, having an interest or associating with others is enough. Most times when I check out a doctorās LinkedIn profile who may be going for certain roles, their profile lacks any indication theyāre interested or suited to those roles.
Why is this important? Because it can make or break whether you get the opportunity you want. Many doctors grossly underestimate this and believe that spending most of their energy on their CV is the answer.
WRONG.
Whilst youāre probably spending most of your time working on your CV, employers prefer to spend more time checking you out online. Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, or anything easy to access to corroborate whatās on your CV.
Your energy needs to be spent in spending time and having conversations with people who are doing what you want to be doing. Thatās where you learn, and thatās where the opportunities come up. Then controlling and curating the online narrative to match that.
Iām in the process of reconstructing my own personal brand - similar to previous but combining everything I have into one message.
Redefining work: There is a better way.
Donāt settle for any less than you deserve.
Take control of your own narrative.

āļø Travel Doctorpreneurs (TD)
Weāre continuing to grow as a team with 3 new doctors last week, and several more who had their strategy calls. Itās a fantastic way to get the tickbox commercial experience that many doctors moving to industry are seeking these days.
A big congratulations to Dr. Karla Allen Wright, also a Doctors in Industry Founding Fellow, for completing her first LIVE presentation for the business to over 18 new potential partners across the world.
Weāre hot on training, but even hotter on the see one, do one, teach one philosophy thatās now a bit old in medicine.
We put perfectionism aside for messy starts so we fail fast and master our skills as quickly as possible through doing.. NOT overthinking it.
